Standard Dimension Ratio (SDR) is a method of rating a pipe’s durability against pressure. The standard dimension ratio describes the correlation between the pipe dimension and the thickness of the pipe wall.
Novatherm pipes and fittings comply with and are classified under the requirements of the following fire classifications:
- Class B2 according to DIN 4102
- Class E according to EN13501-1+A1
Under such classifications, it is normally inflammable and is capable of resisting, for a short period, a small flame attack without substantial flame spread.
In case of a fire outbreak of temperatures above 800°C, under ideal conditions and with sufficient oxygen, only carbon dioxide and water vapor are produced as the raw material of Polypropylene Random Copolymer is of a hydrocarbon chain. Toxic fumes or dioxin will not be emitted.
Novatherm PP-R Pipes can be used in compressed air installations and other industrial applications.

Novatherm PP-R Pipes and Fittings are produced with sizes, ranging from 20 mm to 250 mm, in order to meet the needs of our customers under one roof.
Under normal working pressures and conditions, the average service life of Novatherm pipes is projected to be 50 years warranty or more.
Examples
Novatherm PP-R SDR 11 cold water pipe, transporting water at a temperature of 20°C is projected to last more than 100 years under normal operating conditions with an operating pressure of 12.5 bar.
Novatherm PP-R SDR 6 hot water pipe, transporting water at a temperature of 70°C is projected to last more than 50
years under normal operating conditions with an operating pressure of 8.5 bar.
SDR is the short form of Standard Dimension Ratio
SDR= Diameter / Wall Thickness
SDR = d /s = Pipes series index from ISO 4065
PP-R materials are closely linked with quality and lifespan of pipes and fittings. Thus not many PP-R manufacturers have been certified by international quality assurance organizations. It is difficult for consumers to identify good PP-R pipes and fittings from inferior ones only by naked eyes. The safest way to buy PP-R pipes and fittings is from NOVATHERM’s certified and authorised distributors.
